Lawrenceville, GA – The #22 UC Women's Tennis team defeated (RV) Our Lady of the Lake in match one of the Georgia Gwinnett Invitational on Friday afternoon. Cumberlands took four out of five matches to win 4-1 and improve to 2-1 on the season.  

The Pats opened the day strong, sweeping doubles play to take an early 1-0 advantage. Marina Nagai and Rion Yanuma earned the first win of the day, defeating Ely Laure Ah-sou and Michaela Muller 6-0 at #3 doubles. Victoria Zarate and Karen Kondo earned a 6-2 win in #2 doubles to secure the doubles point. Liu YuFang and Mahiro Hara also tallied a victory in #1 doubles, 6-3.  

In singles action, Karen Kondo got things started for UC in #1 singles. Kondo defeated Lucia Popluharova 6-1, 7-5 to increase the lead to 2-0.  

Marina Nagai extended the Pats lead to 3-0 with a win over Alexandra Mille at #2 singles. The junior picked up the win in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.  

UC earned their fourth and final win in #6 singles with Rion Yanuma defeating Michaela Muller 6-2, 6-3, while the rest of the match went unfinished.  

The Pats return to the court tomorrow for day two of the Georgia Gwinnett College Invitational in Lawrenceville, GA.  UC will play #2 Georgia Gwinnett tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. ET before taking on (RV) Cumberland University at 4 p.m ET.
