Columbia, KY – The #3 Patriots traveled to compete in their first away Mid-South Conference dual of the season. UC defeated (RV) Lindsey Wilson (8-4, 2-3) by a score of 50-0, winning all of their matches and recording a second consecutive shutout. Cumberlands improves to 11-2 overall and 4-0 within the conference.
#17 Matteo Vargo got the action started for the Patriots in the 125-weight class. The junior recorded two 3-point takedowns, a 2-point reversal, and riding time to win by a 9-1 major decision over #20 Chase Ayers (Lindsey Wilson).
UC got off to a 9-0 lead after #11 Adonis Boyd marked an impressive 19-4 technical fall victory over Alex Tabor (Lindsey Wilson). Boyd tallied a 3-point takedown and an escape in the first and second periods, followed by a 3-point takedown and two 4-point nearfalls.
In the 141-bout, #20 Eli Peyton defeated Drake Montelongo (Lindsey Wilson) by major decision, 12-2. The junior scored on three 3-point takedowns, an escape, and riding time.
#4 Jace Luchau extended the Cumberlands lead to 19-0 after a forfeit by Lindsey Wilson in the 149-weight class.
In the 157-bout, Marc LeGaspe notched a fall of 3:00 over Nicholas Hejke (Lindsey Wilson). He recorded a 3-point takedown and a 4-point nearfall in the first period, followed by a 2-point nearfall in the second before pinning his opponent, helping the Pats lead 25-0.
#11 Weston Melvin collected three 3-point takedowns and two 4-point nearfalls to defeat Brandon Irigoyen (Lindsey Wilson) in a 17-0 technical fall, extending the UC lead to 30-0.
#9 Dylan Preston added three more points for the Pats with a 4-0 decision over Chris Morales (Lindsey Wilson). Preston scored on a 3-point takedown in the first, followed by an escape in the second to win the match.
After winning an individual title last weekend with an undefeated record at the Cumberland Open, TJ Huber continues to impress. The graduate student put together a dominant 17-1 technical fall win against Cale Johnson (Lindsey Wilson). After a 3-point takedown in the first, Huber added two more 3-point takedowns, a 4-point nearfall, and an escape in the second. He would tally one more 3-point takedown in the third to secure the victory and give Cumberlands a 38-0 lead.
In the 197-weight class, Jackson Shramek got the start and notched a fall of 4:52 over Jostyn Zayas (Lindsey Wilson). The freshman scored on a 3-point takedown in the first before pinning his opponent in the second, increasing the lead to 44-0.
#14 Austin Silva added six more points in the 285-bout and would be the last Patriot to score in this contest. Silva notched a fall of 3:52 over Tony Rogers (Lindsey Wilson) with a 3-point takedown and two escapes.
UC will be back on the road Wednesday February 5th for their final Mid-South Conference dual of the season at #10 Campbellsville.
