#3 Patriots Fall to #10 Campbellsville in Regular Season Finale

Campbellsville, KY – #3 Cumberlands traveled to take on #10 Campbellsville in a top ten matchup for the MSC regular season crown Wednesday night. UC fell short by a score of 23-15 with three decision victories and one fall. The Pats were led by #17 Matteo Vargo, #9 Gage Hudson, Marc LeGaspe, and #6 O'Brian Black.

The Patriots got out to a strong start with #17 Matteo Vargo in the 125-weight class. The junior scored six points for UC after notching a fall of 3:35 over Caleb Thomas (Campbellsville). Vargo recorded a 3-point takedown and a 4-point nearfall in the first, followed by another 3-point takedown in the second before pinning his opponent and giving UC a 6-0 lead.

In the 133-weight class, #8 Chandlar Akins fell in an 8-1 decision to #4 Izaeah Beavers (Campbellsville). #9 Gage Hudson regained the lead for UC with three points in the 141-bout. He defeated #17 Nick Moore in a 4-0 decision, scoring on an escape in the second and a 3-point takedown in the third period.

#4 Jace Luchau fell in the highly anticipated matchup against #1 Nicholas Yancey (Campbellsville) by a 9-5 decision. Luchau had a 3-point takedown and two escapes in the match.

At 157, Marc LeGaspe defeated Anthony Joseph (Campbellsville) in a hard-fought 7-6 decision. The senior tallied three escapes and four points off penalties to win the match, extending the Patriots lead back up to six at 12-6.

#6 O'Brian Black followed that up with a decision victory of his own in the 165-weight class and would be the last Patriot to score in the match. Black took down #10 Jasitin Kubwimana (Campbellsville) with two 3-point takedowns and two escapes in an 8-6 decision. #9 Dylan Preston fell by technical fall to #6 Shadrick Slone (Campbellsville) in the 174-bout.

TJ Huber fell to #9 Brice Parks (Campbellsville) in a hard-fought 5-3 decision after notching a 2-point reversal and an escape in the third period. Greyson Stevens also fell in a narrow 3-2 decision to Joel Hatchett (Campbellsville) with two escapes. In the final macth of night in the 285-bout, #14 Austin Silva was defeated by #5 Gabe Craig (Campbellsville) by a fall of 4:00.
