Marietta, GA – The fifth-ranked UC women's wrestling team record a pair of tech falls and a pair of falls against top-ranked Life, however, it wasn't enough as the Patriots fell 24-19 Friday night.

"This was a great test for our team and we're fine tuning and getting them prepared for the upcoming conference championships," said Head Coach Sarah Allen.

Cumberlands opened the match on a high note as seventh-ranked Dutchess King earned a 10-0 tech fall over second-ranked Katherine Hernandez of Life at the 103 lbs. weight class.  King opened the match with a four-point throw to take the early advantage before a five-point suplex extended her lead to 9-0.  King closed out the match in the first period after earning a push out for the 10-0 final and putting UC in front 4-0.

Life earned wins at 110 and 117 to take and 8-4 lead.  #16 Presley Anderson evened the score with a 10-0 tech fall over Sophie Sarver.  Anderson jumped out to a 2-0 lead before earning back-to-back four points takedowns,  including a late drop throw in the first period to close out the 10-0 final to tie the team score at 8-8.

In one of the closest matches of the day #12 Mary Jane Porter battled #7 Olivia Mottley at the 131 lbs. weight class.  Porter tallied a two-point takedown and a one-point pushout in the second period, before a late two-point take down evened the score at 3-3. Unfortunately for UC, Mottley won the match on criteria giving Life an 11-9 edge.

The Running Eagles tallied consecutive tech falls, before Micah Fisher tallied a fall against Ugochi Anunobi.  Anunobi jumped out to a 6-0 lead but Fisher rallied to even the score at 6-6 after the first period.  In the second period, Fisher utilized a cow catcher that turned straight into a fall 16 seconds into the period.

UC's final win came at the 207 class as Destiny Marquez earned the late fall over Anetra Witherspoon.  Witherspoon took a 4-3 lead after the first period before Marquez rallied in the second period with an underhook trip straight to the mat to earn the fall for the 24-19 final.

Cumberlands returns to the mat on Friday, February 14th, when they host a pair of duals against MSC foes Indiana Tech and Lindsey Wilson.  The Patriots will take on the Warriors at 6 p.m. and the Blue Raiders at 7 p.m.  Prior to match, UC will honor their five seniors.
