Ypsilanti, MI – The Cumberlands cheerleading team earned an overall score of 89.37 to secure a seventh-place finish at the NAIA National Championship on Saturday. With their seventh-place finish, the Patriots have tied for their second-best finish in program history with 2023.
"I am really proud of how this group came together and made the changes they needed to. A six-point jump is huge and to be the highest scoring all female squad is a great accomplishment," said Head Coach R.J. Conroy.
The Pats entered the day in seventh place after securing an 84.70 in the preliminary round of competition recording 25% of their total score. In the finals round today, UC performed a flawless routine with zero deductions to earn a score of 90.93.
With their overall score of 89.37 and final round score of 90.93, the Patriots cheerleading team broke the program's record for single round score and overall score at nationals.
St. Ambrose earned first overall with a total score of 97.95, while Xavier earned a 97.39 and Dickinson State with a 96.38 to round out the top three. Georgetown was the only other team from the Mid-South Conference represented at nationals and they earned an 86.67 to secure eleventh place.
Cumberlands will be heading to Daytona Beach, Florida for their final competition of the season on April 9 to compete at NCA College Nationals.
