Bowling Green, KY – The two-seeded UC Women's Tennis team opened up the Mid-South Conference Tournament with a strong 4-0 win over seventh-seeded Georgetown on Wednesday. Cumberlands moves onto the semifinals tomorrow afternoon.
The Pats opened the day taking the first two doubles matches to capture the early 1-0 advantage. Karen Kondo and Victoria Zarate earned the first doubles win, defeating Lydia Prince and Maddie Gill 6-1 in the #1 spot. Mahiro Hara and Liu YuFang clinched the point with a 6-0 victory over Hana Dixon and Peyton Blank at #3 doubles.
Marina Nagai extended the Pats lead to 2-0 with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 straight-set win against Maddie Gill at #2 singles.
Rion Yanuma followed that up with an identical 6-0, 6-0 win at the #3 spot, giving UC a 3-0 advantage.
Hara secured the win for the Patriots with another dominant singles victory. The freshman defeated Abby Moss 6-1, 6-1 to seal the 4-0 shutout.
Cumberlands will face the winner of #3 seed Cumberland University and sixth-seeded Freed-Hardeman in the semifinals tomorrow afternoon. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m. CT.
