Mobile, AL – The No. 13 seed UC Men's Tennis team advanced to the second round of the 2025 NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship after blanking #20 seed Tennessee Southern 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Pats got out to a strong 1-0 start, taking two of three doubles matches to secure the point.
Liam Savio and
Juanchi Alcon earned the first win of the day with a dominant 6-0 victory over Rage Matuck and Luis Santana at #1 doubles.
Darius Kuster and
Gabriele Solda claimed a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker win against Nick Rosa and Felipe Dias at the #2 spot to collect the point.
UC kept the momentum on their side in doubles play as
Luis Marcos defeated Daiki Ishii in straight-sets 6-0, 6-2 at #3 singles, giving the Pats a 2-0 advantage.
Gabriele Solda earned the next singles victory over Nick Rosa at the #4 spot 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) to extend the lead to 3-0.
Darius Kuster clinched the overall team win and shutout with a 6-1, 7-6 (4-0) win against Felipe Dias at #6 singles while the rest of the match was left unfinished.
Cumberlands advances to face #4 seed Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) at 1 p.m. CT in the second round of the 2025 NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship. This will be the second time this season these teams have met after the Saints defeated the Patriots 4-2 back on February 21st at the Georgia Gwinnett Invitational.
