Austin, TX – For the second consecutive season,
Marina Nagai was named to the College Sports Communicators Women's Tennis Academic All-America list, the CSC announced Tuesday. Nagai garnered First Team academic honors for the first time after receiving Second Team honors a season ago.
The Kanagawa, Japan native just completed her third season with the Patriots, majoring in Business Administration. Earlier this season, she captured both Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete and Mid-South Conference Academic All-Conference honors.
Nagai was equally as impressive on the court as she earned NAIA Second Team All-American and MSC First Team All-Conference honors. In conference play, Nagai posted a perfect 5-0 record at #2 singles and was 2-2 in doubles action, partnering with
Rion Yanuma. The junior was a consistent piece for the Pats that played anywhere from the #1-#3 spots.
The CSC Academic All-America® team is comprised of 12 members from across the NAIA. To be eligible for this award a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher with a minimum GPA of 3.50. They also have competed in at least 50% of its team's competition as well as been a contributor in the pool. This year is the third year that tennis has been recognized in its own category. Tennis student-athletes were previously part of the At-Large category.
The Patriots women's tennis team finished the season with an overall record of 18-6 and a 5-1 mark in MSC action. Cumberlands stayed inside of the NAIA Coaches' Poll for the entire 2024-25 campaign, concluding the season ranked 18
th.
