Austin, TX – UC wrestler,
O'Brian Black, has garnered College Sports Communicators Academic All-America honors for the first time in his career, as released by CSC officials on Wednesday afternoon. Black becomes the first UC men's wrestler to earn Academic All-America honors in program history. He is also the first Patriot to earn CSC At-Large All-America honors since 2023.
Black was named to the Second Team list for his efforts on and off the mat this season. The graduate student capped off his stellar career with an All-American finish at the NAIA National Championships this winter. Black also earned his second consecutive individual MSC Title in the 165-weight class.
The Helena, AL native compiled an overall record of 27-5 with an 8-0 record in duals. Black tallied two falls with the fastest at 1:44 in a dual meet against Rochester Christian. He marked three technical falls, five major decisions, and nine decisions. Black notched a 13-match winning streak and went 4-2 at the NAIA National Championships.
UC compiled an overall record of 11-3 with a 4-1 mark in the conference. Cumberlands captured the MSC Tournament Title for the first time since the 2021-22 season after scoring 170 points with four wrestlers earning individual titles.
The 2024-25 Academic All-America® At-Large Teams, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. This year 20 student-athletes were named to the CSC. The NAIA honorees combined for a 3.82 GPA.
The At-Large category consist of student-athletes across a variety of sports including women's beach volleyball, men's & women's bowling, cheerleading, dance, men's & women's golf, men's & women's lacrosse, men's volleyball, and men's and women's wrestling. Each school can nominate up to six men and six women in this category.
