Bowling Green, KY - For the first time in his career, Julius Makinen was named Mid-South Conference Runner of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.
The Helsinki, Finland native finished with a time of 24:58.8 to place 78th overall out of 459 runners in the men's 8K at the Southern Showcase hosted by Jacksonville State University this past Friday. His time ranks among the top 15 all-time finishers in Cumberlands history in the 8K. The freshman was the top finisher for UC as well as the top finisher in the NAIA at this meet.
Makinen's efforts helped UC place 21st out of 48 teams this past weekend. Makinen becomes the second Patriot to receive the honor this season and marks the first of his career.
Makinen and the Patriots will return to the course on Saturday, October 4th at the Greater Louisville Classic hosted by the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.
