Men Open PNC Lenny Lyles Invite With Strong Day One Performances

LOUISVILLE, KY – The Patriots opened competition at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invite on Friday with a full slate of performances across the sprints, middle distance, distance events, and multi-events on day one of the meet.
 
UC's multi-event group got the day started in the heptathlon with the opening two events. In the 60 meters, Seth Massie ran 7.32, while Jelle Golbach followed with a time of 7.48. The pair then moved into the high jump, where Golbach cleared 1.91 meters to place fifth overall, and Massie followed with a clearance of 1.85 meters.
 
The heptathlon continued in the long jump as Massie recorded a mark of 6.82 meters, while Golbach followed closely with a jump of 6.61 meters. In the shot put, Golbach led the Patriots with a throw of 12.00 meters, and Massie added a mark of 11.84 meters to round out day one of the combined events.
 
The sprint group was active in the open 200 meters. In the C division, Jermaine Thompson led UC with a time of 21.96, followed by Noah Kincade at 22.00. Lebron Williams crossed the line in 22.20, while Jordan Afolayan finished in 22.28. Eddie Van Wyk represented the Patriots in the B division of the event and ran 22.44.
 
UC also added representation in the 400 meters as Zion Pruitt ran 51.24 in the C division.
 
The Patriots posted a deep showing in the 800 meters, placing eight athletes in the open event. Hugo Massa led the group with a time of 1:54.28, followed closely by Caden Cull in 1:54.70. Jarod Mahe crossed the line in 1:55.10, while Kyle Crady followed in 1:56.91. Sean Crady added a time of 1:57.16, Tavon Davis finished in 1:57.32, Tammo Doerner ran 1:57.88, and Reed Richardson crossed in 1:58.11. Jackson Lowe rounded out UC's entries with a time of 2:03.30.
 
The distance group closed out the day in the 3000 meters, where Noah Loeser led UC with a time of 8:26.02, just two hundredths of a second off the national cut. Niklas Scherb followed in 8:37.66, while Casey Desilvey ran 8:55.48 and Noah McClellan finished in 8:57.83.
 
The Patriots will return to action tomorrow as competition continues at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invite. The final day will start with field events at 9 AM and track events at 10 AM.
