Fort Wayne, IN – The #6 University of the Cumberlands women's wrestling team finished the day with a split in dual action, battling #8 Indiana Tech in a tightly contested matchup before rebounding with a dominant shutout victory over RV Lourdes.
#6 CUMBERLANDS FALLS TO #8 INDIANA TECH, 28-16
Against Indiana Tech, the Warriors opened the dual with a forfeit at 103 and followed with a technical fall at 110. UC answered at 117 as Shammilka Miranda sparked the Patriots with another technical fall to get Cumberlands on the board.
Indiana Tech responded with bonus points at 124 and 131 to regain momentum. The Patriots stayed competitive at 138, pushing the bout the distance before Indiana Tech secured the decision. The Warriors added decision wins at 145 and 160 to extend their lead.
Cumberlands closed strong in the final bouts, beginning with Saiheron Preciado-Meza earning a fall in 1:37 at 180. Naomi Duenas capped the dual with a fall in 1:04 at 207, but Indiana Tech held on for the team victory.
#6 CUMBERLANDS SHUTS OUT RV LOURDES, 43-0
UC bounced back in commanding fashion against RV Lourdes, opening the dual with a pair of forfeits at 103 and 110. Sarina Gunn and Elise Toste followed with decision victories to keep the Patriots firmly in control.
Genesis Egli continued the momentum at 124 with a fall at 1:54, while Mary Jane Porter added points with technical fall at 131. Brooklyn Shaeffer notched another pin at 138 before Genesis Gilmore secured a forfeit win at 145.
Alivia Ming recorded a fall at 160 to maintain the shutout, and Saiheron Preciado-Meza closed the dual with a technical fall at 180, sealing a 43-0 victory for the Patriots.
Cumberlands returns to the mat on Saturday, February 7th, at the Grand View open in Des Moines, Iowa.
