Jackson, TN – The #13-ranked University of the Cumberlands women's tennis team continued its dominant start to the season on Friday afternoon, sweeping Freed-Hardeman University 7-0. The Patriots improve to 5-1 on the year with the victory.
At No. 1 doubles, Mahiro Hara and YuFang Liu secured a 6-2 victory. The No. 2 pairing of Victoria Zarate and Haruna Kojima followed with a 6-3 win, while Marina Nagai and Bryndis Rosa capped off the sweep at No. 3 doubles in dominant fashion, blanking their opponents 6-0.
Holding a 1-0 advantage, the Patriots carried that momentum into singles action, where they controlled every court. Marina Nagai delivered a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to extend the lead. Bryndis Rosa followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot, while Victoria Zarate handled business at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 decision.
Haruna Kojima earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles, and Mahiro Hara matched that dominance at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 performance. YuFang Liu rounded out the sweep at No. 6 singles, earning a 6-1, 6-1 victory to secure the 7-0 final.
The Patriots are back on the court on Thursday, March 5, with their home opener against Jacksonville State. The first serve is slated for 1:00 PM.
