Harrogate, TN – The No. 8 University of the Cumberlands men's tennis team earned a 6–1 victory over Tusculum on Friday morning at the LMU Indoor Invite, improving to 1–1 on the season.
The Patriots opened the match with a sweep of doubles play to take an early 1–0 lead. The No. 1 tandem of Darius Kuster and Gabriele Solda set the tone with a commanding 6–1 win, while Manuel Fernandez Guede and Thibaud Vivier secured a 6–4 victory at No. 2 doubles. UC capped doubles action with a 6–1 triumph from Mohammed Abuzed Saber and Jacopo Cianfarini at the No. 3 spot.
Cumberlands carried that momentum into singles competition, claiming five of six matches. Kuster cruised to a straight-set win at No. 2 singles (6–1, 6–2), while Vivier followed with a 6–0, 7–5 victory at No. 4. Kesia Roi added another point for the Patriots with a dominant 6–0, 6–0 performance at No. 6.
In tightly contested matches, Solda rallied past Andrei Negoita at No. 3 singles (4–6, 6–1, 10–3), and Cianfarini edged Kai Poelchau in a thrilling three-set battle at the top spot, 6–1, 6–7(8), 10–8.
UC will return to action tomorrow, February 7th where the Patriots will continue their run at the LMU Indoor Invite, playing King and Carson-Newman starting at 10:30 AM.
