Kansas City, MO – The University of the Cumberlands women's tennis team remained No. 13 with 183 points in the latest NAIA Women's Tennis Top 25 Poll after posting a 3-1 record since the last rankings release.
The Patriots opened the run with a dominant 7-0 sweep of Freed-Hardeman, winning all three doubles matches before controlling singles play. The No. 1 doubles duo of Mahiro Hara and YuFang Liu led the charge with a 6-2 victory, while Marina Nagai and Bryndis Rosa capped the doubles sweep with a 6-0 win at No. 3. Cumberlands continued its strong singles play by winning all six matches in straight sets. Marina Nagai earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles, while Bryndis Rosa, Victoria Zarate, Haruna Kojima, Mahiro Hara, and YuFang Liu each added convincing wins to secure the shutout.
The Patriots later faced Jacksonville State, falling 4-0 after the Gamecocks secured the doubles point and three singles victories to clinch the match.
Cumberlands quickly bounced back with a 4-0 win over Huntington, taking the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 before securing three straight-set wins in singles. Mahiro Hara highlighted the performance with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles.
The Patriots wrapped up the stretch with their biggest win of the week, defeating No. 22 Cumberland 6-1 at the UC Tennis Complex. Cumberlands swept doubles play to claim the opening point before winning five of six singles matches, including victories from YuFang Liu, Bryndis Rosa, Marina Nagai, Victoria Zarate, and Mahiro Hara.
The Patriots are back on the court on Wednesday, March 11, with a home match against RV Grace College. The first serve is slated for 1:00 PM.
