WILLIAMSBURG, KY – The University of the Cumberlands men's track & field team opened the outdoor season Saturday at the Cumberlands Early Spring Meet, hosting the first meet of the spring at the Cumberlands track. The Patriots recorded multiple event victories and strong finishes across the track and field events, highlighted by an NAIA A standard performance.
Cole Bennett delivered the top performance of the day for the Patriots, winning the mixed 5000-meter race walk in 22:31.24. The mark hit the NAIA A standard and currently stands as the top time in the NAIA this season.
The Patriots picked up multiple victories in the running events.
Tanner Tumey captured the 110-meter hurdles title with a time of 15.85.
Zion Pruitt and
Noah Kincade delivered a one-two finish in the 400-meter dash, with Pruitt winning in 49.20 and Kincade close behind in 49.22.
Nate Case added a sixth-place finish in 51.95 while
Jackson Lowe crossed in 53.17.
In the sprints, Willy Mabena won the 100-meter dash in 10.68.
Sincere Irvin ran 11.54 while
Tristen Knox posted 11.76 and
Zach Lawson ran 12.07.
The middle-distance group saw
Reed Richardson place third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.73, while
Maddox Knight finished fifth in 2:01.08 and
Nathan Wagner ran 2:05.83.
In the 1500 meters, Casey Desilvey captured the event victory in 4:06.67. Ben Beilfub added a fifth-place finish in 4:11.73 while
Linus Schaller ran 4:26.57.
In the 200 meters,
Aarontae Wesley finished fourth in 21:91.
The Patriots also saw success in the relay events, as the men's 4x400-meter relay placed second with a time of 3:34.21.
In the field events, Nathan Goodin captured the high jump title with a clearance of 1.85 meters. Goodin also added a runner-up finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.58 meters.
Tanner Tumey placed third in the long jump at 6.57 meters while
Tristen Knox finished fourth with a jump of 6.55 meters.
Sincere Irvin placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.94 meters.
In the throws,
Austin Meacham placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.83 meters while
Byron Collier added an 11th-place finish. Meacham also competed in the javelin, placing sixth with a throw of 41.12 meters.
Collier added a runner-up finish in the discus throw with a mark of 39.54 meters.
UC will be back next week as they are set to compete at Ole Miss.
