Williamsburg, KY – Cumberlands athletics have continued to display fantastic postseason performances throughout the winter championships. For their outstanding efforts in helping their teams win cheerleader Hannah King and forward Tanner Walton have been named the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, the athletic department announced Monday.
Hannah King garnered Athlete of the Week honors after a strong performance throughout the MSC Championships. King played a pivotal part in UC opening the championship with a program record 95.00 in the prelims to ascend the leaderboard. The Patriots followed that up scoring a 95.10 in the finals to close out the championship with a 95.08 capturing the fifth conference title in program history. In addition to the team's success King was named the Mid-South Conference Cheerleader of the Year as well as the MSC Freshman of the Year after notching the top score.
Tanner Walton earned athlete of the week honors after a career performance during the NAIA First and Second Rounds. Walton provided a spark off the bench for Cumberlands netting a career-high 19 points, on 6-6 shooting, including five three pointers in the win over #13 Indiana Tech. The senior also grabbed eight rebounds and four assists in the win. He followed that up with nine points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks as the Patriots defeated William Carey. With the win, Cumberlands has advanced to the NAIA Round of 16 for the third straight year.
