Men Open Weekend at Emory and Charlotte

ATLANTA, GA – The University of the Cumberlands men's track & field team split squads to continue their outdoor season, competing at both the Emory Spring Break Classic and the Charlotte 49er Classic this weekend. The Patriots turned in a strong opening weekend highlighted by a runner-up finish and NAIA standard, along with multiple solid performances across both meets.

Emory Spring Break Classic

Cumberlands was led by a standout performance from Willy Mabena in the 200 meters. Mabena finished second overall with a time of 21.07, hitting the NAIA B standard in the event to lead the Patriots on the weekend.
 
The sprint group placed multiple athletes inside the top-20 in the 200m, as Lebron Williams finished ninth in 21.63, Jermaine Thompson took 10th in 21.64, Noah Kincade placed 16th in 21.83, and Edwin Van Wyk crossed 19th in 21.89.
 
In the 400-meter hurdles, Zion Pruitt posted a time of 55.24 to place 10th overall.

Charlotte 49er Classic

In distance action, Sean Crady led the Patriots in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:00.78 to place 39th overall. Kyle Crady followed in 42nd at 4:02.24, while Maddox Knight ran a personal-best 4:09.29 and Reed Richardson finished in 4:11.74.
 
Casey Desilvey highlighted the 5000-meter run for Cumberlands, placing 16th overall with a time of 15:30.31.
 
The Pats will be back for the second day of competition at both meets tomorrow.
