Davis Breaks Program Record with National Standard Performance

ATLANTA, GA – UC's men's track & field team delivered a standout day of performances Saturday, splitting competition between the Emory Spring Break Classic and the Charlotte 49er Classic. The Patriots were highlighted by multiple national standards, a school record, and several top finishes.

Emory Spring Break Classic
Tavon Davis headlined the day with a record-breaking performance in the 400 meters. Davis won the event in 46.20, breaking the school record while hitting the NAIA A standard by nearly a full second. His time currently ranks as the fastest in the NAIA this season.
 
Roy Miller followed with a third-place finish in 47.19, hitting the NAIA B standard and recording one of the top-three times in the NAIA this year. Edwin Van Wyk also competed in the event, finishing 18th in 49.95.
 
In the short sprints, Willy Mabena turned in a strong weekend in the 100 meters. Mabena placed second in the finals with a time of 10.43, finishing just 0.01 seconds shy of the NAIA standard while recording the sixth-fastest time in the NAIA this season. Jermaine Thompson added a fifth-place finish in 10.59 after qualifying through the prelim rounds.
 
Thompson also qualified for the finals with a time of 10.53 in the prelims, while Mabena advanced with a 10.47. Mark Lawin finished in 11.25 while Lebron Williams also competed in the prelims with a time of 12.82.
 
In the hurdles, Zion Pruitt advanced through the prelims and placed fourth in the final of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.98.
 
In the field events, Mark Lawin led Cumberlands in the discus with a throw of 42.18 meters to place 14th.

Charlotte 49er Classic
In distance events, Reed Richardson led the Patriots in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.25, recording a personal best. Maddox Knight followed in 1:57.72, while Nathan Wagner posted a personal-best 1:59.30. Jackson Lowe also competed in the event with a 2:07.27 finish.
 
Cumberlands will return to action next weekend as the Patriots travel to Raleigh, North Carolina to compete in the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State.
