Williamsburg, KY – The No. 7 University of the Cumberlands men's tennis team defended its home court on Friday afternoon, defeating No. 16 Huntington 4-1 at the UC Tennis Complex. With the win, the Patriots improve to 8-4 on the season.
Cumberlands set the tone early by sweeping the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Darius Kuster and Gabriele Solda secured a 6-4 victory over Julian Tantera and Javier Lopez Real. The No. 2 pairing of Jacopo Cianfarini and Mohammed Abuzed Saber followed with a tight 6-5 win against Martin Capdevilla and Pablo Lopez Real. The Patriots completed the doubles sweep at No. 3, where Kesia Roi and Manuel Fernandez Guede defeated Mateo Batista and Juan Carrasco 7-5.
In singles play, Cumberlands quickly added to its lead with strong performances across the lineup. At No. 1 singles, Cianfarini dropped the opening set before rallying to win the next two, defeating Tantera 6-7, 6-2, 6-2. Roi battled through a three-set match at No. 5 singles, earning a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Javier Lopez Real. Abuzed Saber sealed the team victory with a straight-set performance at No. 6 singles, defeating Carrasco 6-3, 6-3.
Huntington picked up its lone point at No. 4 singles, where Mateo Batista defeated Thibaud Vivier 6-3, 6-3. Matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles were left unfinished after the Patriots clinched the match.
The Patriots are back on the court on Monday, March 9, with a home match against #19 Cumberland (Tenn.). The first serve is slated for 1:00 PM.
