Men Finish Day Two with Four All-American Finishes

GAINESVILLE, FL – The Patriots men's track & field team delivered a strong day at the 2026 NAIA Indoor National Championships, highlighted by three All-American performances in the 3000-meter race walk, an All-American finish in the heptathlon, and multiple athletes advancing to championship finals. UC currently sits in third-place in the team standings.
 
The Patriots opened the day in dominant fashion in the 3000-meter race walk final, placing three athletes on the All-American podium. Tomas Mencel led the way with a third-place finish in a new program record time of 11:57.33 to earn All-American honors and score six team points. Dillan Melchiore followed in fourth place in 12:06.17 to add five more points. Lucien Beardsley finished seventh in 12:14.90 to secure All-American status and two additional points, giving Cumberlands three All-Americans in the event.
 
In the heptathlon, freshman Mark Lawin capped a strong two-day performance with a fourth-place finish and a total of 5,302 points to earn All-American honors and break the school record. Lawin posted marks of 7.25 in the 60m, 6.92m in the long jump, 14.47m in the shot put, 1.85m in the high jump, 8.54 in the 60m hurdles, 4.45m in the pole vault, and 2:57.67 in the 1000m. Seth Massie narrowly missed All-American honors, finishing ninth overall with 4,968 points to cap off an incredible run this indoor season.
 
On the track in prelim action, the Patriots secured several key qualifiers for Saturday's finals. Tavon Davis advanced in the 600m, winning his heat in 1:17.69 to automatically qualify for the final. This was UC's third school record of the day. Jarod Mahe also competed in the 600m prelims, finishing in 1:20.32.
 
In the 1000m, both Hauke Trost and Ryan Ehrler advanced to the final despite not entering as top-eight seeds. Trost ran 2:25.17 to finish fourth overall and automatically qualify, while Ehrler posted a 2:25.65 to secure one of the time-qualifying spots. The pair will give the Patriots two scoring opportunities in the final.
 
Ishak Mekideche advanced to the mile final after running 4:17.32 to earn an automatic qualifying position. He looks to add to the team total tomorrow in the mile and the 3K.
 
In sprint prelims, Lebron Williams competed in the 60-meter dash, running 6.88 for 23rd. Jermain Thompson followed in the 200m dash, clocking a 22.22 to finish 21st overall.
 
UC's 18 points sits third in the team standings. Marian is in first with 23 points with Cornerstone in second at 22nd. Indiana Tech and William Carey round out the top five with 17 points and 13 points respectively.
