Williamsburg, KY – The #6 University of the Cumberlands men's tennis team delivered a strong performance on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Midway 6-1 at the UC Tennis Complex to improve to 12-7 on the season.
The Patriots set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. At the top position, Darius Kuster and Gabriele Solda controlled the match with a 6-1 victory over Ricardo Starosta and Mudiwa Munyimani. The duo of Mohammed Abuzed Saber and Jacopo Cianfarini followed with a 6-2 win at #2 doubles against Ferran Clapes Ballart and Manuel Mirabal, while Kesia Roi and Manuel Fernandez Guede completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory over Aleksey Granitsa and Shimpei Yazuka at #3 doubles.
In singles play, Cumberlands dominated five of the six courts. Darius Kuster extended the Patriots' lead with a decisive 6-3, 6-2 win at #2 singles, while Gabriele Solda followed with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory at #3 singles.
Thibaud Vivier delivered one of the most dominant performances of the day, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win at #4 singles. Kesia Roi added another point with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at #5 singles, and Mohammed Abuzed Saber closed out the scoring with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #6 singles.
Midway's lone point came at #1 singles, where Ricardo Starosta defeated Jacopo Cianfarini in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
The Patriots are back on the court on Friday, April 3, where they will travel to Georgetown, Kentucky for a conference match against Georgetown. The first serve is slated for 1:00 PM.
