Williamsburg, KY – The #7 University of the Cumberlands men's tennis team put together a dominant all-around performance on Friday afternoon, sweeping Bethel 7-0 at the UC Tennis Complex to improve to 14-7 on the season.
The Patriots wasted no time taking control, securing the doubles point with wins across all three courts. Darius Kuster and Gabriele Solda led the way at #1 doubles with a 6-2 victory, while Jacopo Cianfarini and Mohammed Abuzed Saber mirrored that score at the #2 position. The duo of Manuel Fernandez Guede and Kesia Roi capped off the doubles sweep with a convincing 6-0 win at #3.
In singles play, Cumberlands continued to dominate, winning all six matches to complete the shutout. Jacopo Cianfarini earned a hard-fought victory at #1 singles, outlasting his opponent in a three-set battle 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (8-6). Darius Kuster followed with a strong comeback at #2 singles, dropping the first set before rallying for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win.
Gabriele Solda controlled his match at #3 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 straight-set victory, while Thibaud Vivier battled through a tight three-set match at #4 singles, pulling out a 6-4, 5-7, 10-2 win in the super tiebreak. Kesia Roi added another point at #5 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win, and Mohammed Abuzed Saber rounded out the sweep with a dominant 6-3, 6-0 victory at #6.
The Patriots are back on the court on Sunday, April 12, where they will travel to Tennessee Wesleyan for their final regular season match of the year. The first serve is slated for 1:00 PM.
