Men Shine at Wake Forest and Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. – The University of the Cumberlands men's track & field team competed Friday at the Wake Forest Invitational and the Centre College Twilight, highlighted by NAIA standards, event victories, and strong performances across the board.

Wake Forest Invitational

Cumberlands opened the weekend with a pair of NAIA A standard performances in the 1500 meters. Ishak Mekideche led the way, placing first with a time of 3:47.88, which ranks as the third-fastest time in the NAIA this season. Ryan Ehrler followed closely behind, placing fourth in 3:48.60, the sixth-fastest time nationally.

Centre College Twilight

The Patriots were led by multiple event winners and podium finishes throughout the meet. Cumberlands captured the 4x100-meter relay title as Jordan Afolayan, Willy Mabena, Aarontae Wesley, and Lebron Williams combined to run 40.66, hitting the NAIA B standard.
 
Tavon Davis won the 200 meters with a time of 21.48, while Nate Case placed 16th in 23.29. In the 100 meters, Lebron Williams placed second in 10.52, while Tanner Tumey finished 22nd in 11.29.
 
The 400 meters saw Noah Kincade place second in 49.09. Luban Haque finished ninth in 50.95, Reed Richardson placed 16th in 51.78, and Nate Case finished 19th in 52.12.
 
In the hurdles, Tanner Tumey placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.49. In the 400-meter hurdles, Chase Pearson placed fifth in 1:01.46.
 
Cumberlands also posted a runner-up finish in the 4x800-meter relay, as Maddox Knight, Reed Richardson, Caden Cull, and Max Young combined to run 7:50.05. In the 800 meters, Nathan Wagner placed seventh with a time of 1:58.19.
 
In the field events, Mark Lawin placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 14.63 meters. He also placed eighth in the discus with a throw of 41.13 meters, while Byron Collier placed 15th in 39.74 meters. Collier also competed in the hammer throw, recording a mark of 32.35 meters.
 
The horizontal jumps featured Chase Pearson who placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.28 meters, while Zach Lawson placed 19th with 4.92 meters.
 
In the vertical jumps, Nathan Goodin placed ninth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.80 meters, while Zach Lawson cleared 4.05 meters to place seventh in the pole vault.

Cumberlands will continue the outdoor season next weekend as the Patriots look to build on a strong weekend of performances.
