Cumberlands Falls to Lindsey Wilson in MSC Championship

Bowling Green, KY – The 2-Seed University of the Cumberlands women's tennis team saw its postseason run come to an end on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-0 to 1-Seed Lindsey Wilson in the Mid-South Conference Championship at the Warren County Tennis Facility. The Patriots conclude the match with a 15-5 overall record. 

Lindsey Wilson claimed the early momentum by taking the doubles point, winning on courts one and two. Mahiro Hara and YuFang Liu battled at #1 doubles but fell 6-4, while Marina Nagai and Bryndis Rosa dropped a 6-1 decision at #2. Cumberlands picked up a strong win at #3 doubles, as Haruna Kojima and Victoria Zarate secured a 6-3 victory, but it was not enough to claim the point. 

In singles play, Lindsey Wilson extended its lead with three straight-set victories to clinch the championship. Marina Nagai fell 6-2, 6-0 at #1 singles, while Bryndis Rosa dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision at #2. Victoria Zarate was edged 6-2, 6-4 at #3 as the Blue Raiders secured the match. 

The remaining matches were left unfinished once the team result was decided. Haruna Kojima held a 6-2, 5-3 lead at #4 singles, while YuFang Liu split sets at #5, and Mahiro Hara was in a tight contest at #6 when play was halted. 

No. 13 Patriots now sits at 15-5 overall and awaits its fate for the NAIA National Tournament, with the selection show scheduled for Tuesday, April 28 at 3:00 PM CT.
