Kansas City, MO – The University of the Cumberlands women's tennis team remained steady at No. 13 in the final NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Poll, earning 182 points as announced by the national office.
The Patriots close out the regular season and conference tournament with a 15-5 overall record, making a strong postseason push through the Mid-South Conference Tournament before finishing as the tournament runner-up.
Cumberlands opened postseason play in dominant fashion, sweeping Georgetown (Ky.) 4-0 in the quarterfinals. The Patriots controlled the match from the start, securing the doubles point with a pair of 6-0 victories before cruising through singles play with three straight-set wins to clinch the match.
The Patriots followed that performance with another commanding 4-0 sweep, this time over Cumberland (Tenn.) in the semifinals. Cumberlands once again set the tone in doubles and carried that momentum into singles, highlighted by strong wins from Marina Nagai, Haruna Kojima, and Mahiro Hara to secure a spot in the conference championship match.
In the MSC Championship, Cumberlands faced top-seeded Lindsey Wilson, ultimately falling 4-0. Despite the result, the Patriots showed resilience throughout the match, with several courts remaining competitive when play was halted.
Cumberlands now turns its attention to the NAIA National Championships, where the Patriots await their postseason placement. The NAIA Selection Show is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28 at 3:00 PM CT.
