LOUISVILLE, KY –The University of the Cumberlands men's and women's track & field team opened competition at the Clark Wood Invitational with the multis and throwers in action, highlighted by strong opening-day performances in the decathlon and solid efforts in the throws and distance events.
The Pats saw a strong start from both of its decathletes through five events.
Mark Lawin sits third overall with 3782 points after day one. Lawin recorded times of 10.99 in the 100 meters and 52.53 in the 400 meters, while also posting marks of 6.90 meters in the long jump and 1.82 meters in the high jump. He highlighted his day with a throw of 14.89 meters in the shot put to win the event, while also placing fourth in both the long jump and high jump.
Seth Massie is close behind in fourth with 3741 points. Massie opened with a 10.76 in the 100 meters and added a 50.74 in the 400 meters. He recorded a mark of 7.08 meters in the long jump to place second in the event, while also clearing 1.82 meters in the high jump to place third. Massie added a throw of 11.37 meters in the shot put.
In the throws,
Byron Collier recorded a season-best mark of 35.09 meters in the hammer, while
Delaney Deaton posted a throw of 39.84 meters on the women's side.
On the track, Casey Desilvey turned in a strong performance in the 10,000 meters, placing second overall with a time of 31:51.71.
UC will continue competition at the Clark Wood Invitational as the multis conclude and additional events take place throughout the weekend.
