LOUISVILLE, KY – The University of the Cumberlands men's track & field team closed out the weekend with an outstanding showing at the Clark Wood Invitational while also competing at the Penn Relays, highlighted by multiple school records, NAIA standards, and top national marks.
Tavon Davis headlined the weekend with a record-breaking performance in the 400 meters, winning the event in 45.67. The mark broke his own school record, hit the NAIA A standard, and currently ranks No. 1 in the NAIA this season.
That momentum carried into the 4x400-meter relay, where
Willy Mabena,
Zion Pruitt,
Roy Miller, and Davis combined to run 3:07.69. The time set another school record, hit the NAIA A standard, and now ranks No. 1 in the NAIA.
Mabena also delivered a strong performance in the 100 meters, placing fourth with a personal-best 10.38. The mark hit the NAIA B standard and ranks No. 4 nationally.
Aarontae Wesley followed with a 10.46, which currently ranks No. 13 in the NAIA.
Cuauhtemoc Fitiao added a strong performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase, placing eighth with a time of 9:28.57.
Field event action saw
Byron Collier record a mark of 40.12 meters in the discus, while
Sincere Irvin posted a mark of 13.17 meters in the triple jump.
At the Penn Relays, Cumberlands took on an elite field in the 5K racewalk and turned in one of the top performances in the NAIA this season.
Lucien Beardsley led the way with a fourth-place finish in 20:25.14, setting a school record, hitting the NAIA A standard, and currently ranking No. 1 in the NAIA.
Cole Bennett followed in fifth with a time of 20:54.08, ranking No. 3 nationally, while
Dillan Melchiore placed sixth in 21:21.07, ranking No. 5 in the NAIA. All three Patriots hit the NAIA A standard.
Cumberlands will now look forward next weekend where they will compete in the 2026 Mid-South Conference Outdoor Championships. Events will begin on Sunday in Columbia, KY.
