#8 Patriots Punch Ticket to Quarterfinals for Second Straight Season with 4-0 Sweep of #9 Holy Cross

Mobile, AL - The #8 University of the Cumberlands men's tennis team continued its run at the NAIA National Championships on Wednesday morning, defeating #9 Holy Cross by a 4-0 score at the Mobile Tennis Center to advance to the national quarterfinals for the second consecutive season.

The Patriots improved to 17-8 on the year and wasted little time taking control of the match after securing the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.

At No. 2 doubles, Darius Kuster and Gabriele Solda earned a 6-3 victory over Matthew Jezyk and Naithaolin Golmei. The duo of Manuel Fernandez Guede and Kesia Roi followed with a dominant 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles to clinch the point for the Patriots.

Cumberlands carried that momentum into singles play, claiming straight-set victories on courts three, four, and six to secure the match.

At No. 4 singles, Thibaud Vivier cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Thomas Friesen, while Mohammed Abuzed Saber added a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles. The clinching point came from Gabriele Solda, who posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles.

Three additional singles matches were left unfinished after the Patriots secured the fourth point.

With the win, Cumberlands advances to the NAIA National Championship quarterfinals for the second straight year and will face #1 Georgia Gwinnett on Thursday at 9:00 AM CT.
