#9 Patriots Advance to First NAIA Quarterfinal in Program History with 4-2 Win over #8 SCAD Savannah

Mobile, AL - The #9 University of the Cumberlands women's tennis team made program history on Wednesday afternoon, defeating #8 SCAD Savannah by a 4-2 score at the Mobile Tennis Center to advance to the NAIA National Championship quarterfinals for the first time in program history.

The Patriots improved to 17-5 on the season after capturing the doubles point and adding three singles victories to secure the historic win.

Cumberlands opened the match by taking control in doubles play. At No. 2 doubles, Victoria Zarate and Haruna Kojima earned a 6-4 victory over Alessia Piccoliori and Nora Louko. The Patriots then clinched the doubles point at No. 3 as Marina Nagai and Bryndis Rosa posted a 6-3 win against Jess Johnson and Lisa Konrad.

In singles competition, Haruna Kojima delivered a dominant performance at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 victory, while YuFang Liu followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.

The clinching point came from Bryndis Rosa at No. 2 singles, where she earned a straight-set 6-4, 6-3 victory to send the Patriots into the national quarterfinals.

Two singles matches were left unfinished after the match was clinched.

With the win, Cumberlands advances to the NAIA National Championship quarterfinals for the first time in program history and will face #1 Keiser University on Thursday at 1:00 PM CT.
