Men Run Multiple NAIA Top-10 Times at Lee Last Chance

CLEVELAND, TN – UC's men's track & field team wrapped up competition at the Lee University Last Chance Meet, using the final tune-up before the NAIA Outdoor Championships to post strong marks across the board.
 
Cumberlands day was highlighted by a pair of NAIA A standard performances in the 5000 meters. Luca Madeo captured the event title in 14:06.83, while Ishak Mekideche followed with a time of 14:21.08. Both marks hit the NAIA A standard and rank among the top-10 times in the NAIA this season.
 
The Patriots also recorded an A standard in the 4x100-meter relay, as Jordan Afolayan, Willy Mabena, Edwin Van Wyk, and Aarontae Wesley combined to run 40.09. The time ranks No. 5 in the NAIA this season.
 
Willy Mabena added an NAIA B standard in the 100 meters, placing third with a time of 10.41 after running 10.40 in the prelims. Cuauhtemoc Fitiao also hit the B standard in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:22.24.
 
In the 200 meters, Jermaine Thompson led the Patriots with a time of 21.36, followed by Roy Miller in 21.54. Afolayan ran 21.81, while Van Wyk recorded 21.94 and Noah Kincade added a time of 22.01. Afolayan (10.75), Van Wyk (10.89), Kincade (10.93), and Luban Haque (11.21) also competed in the 100 meters.
 
The middle-distance group saw Hugo Massa run 1:52.79 in the 800 meters, while Hauke Trost followed in 1:52.86. Kyle Crady recorded 1:54.23, while Maddox Knight ran 1:55.09. Ben Beilfub (1:57.34), Reed Richardson (1:57.58), Nathan Wagner (1:59.12), and Jackson Lowe (1:59.17) rounded out the group.
 
In the 1500 meters, Niklas Scherb posted a time of 3:52.55, while Sean Crady ran 3:58.29.
 
Byron Collier led the way in the field events, recording a mark of 40.73 meters in the discus and adding a throw of 33.00 meters in the hammer.
 
UC will now turn their attention to the NAIA Outdoor Championships as the Patriots look to build on their performances from the final tune-up meet of the season.
