Kansas City, MO – The University of the Cumberlands continues to set the standard for excellence in competition, in the classroom, and throughout the community, earning recognition as an NAIA Champions of Character Five-Star Institution for the 27th consecutive year. The Patriots once again received Gold distinction, the highest honor awarded through the NAIA's Champions of Character program.
 
UC was one of 121 institutions to achieve a perfect score on the NAIA Champions of Character scorecard, as announced by the national office Tuesday morning.
 
"Being recognized as a Champions of Character Five-Star Institution is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the standards our student-athletes, coaches, and staff uphold every day," said Athletic Director Chris Kraftick. "Earning Gold distinction once again demonstrates the continued commitment of our entire department to those values."
 
Cumberlands was one of 203 NAIA institutions to be named a Champion of Character Five-Star Award winners. The Patriots joined all seven Mid-South Conference members in achieving this distinction. The Mid-South Conference was also one of 19 conferences named an NAIA Five-Star Conference.
 
The Patriots have remained active in the Williamsburg community, strengthening their connection with local schools through initiatives like "High-Five Fridays," where UC teams visit elementary campuses to greet students and staff. Each UC program also partners with a specific local school to conduct activities throughout the academic year. Local students were also invited to attend UC athletic events, including postseason competitions like the NAIA Opening Rounds.
 
Institutions are evaluated on their commitment to character training, conduct in competition, academic achievement, and outreach efforts. Cumberlands earned top marks for its student-athlete GPA, sportsmanship, and the promotion of character-driven values across its athletic programs.
