Nicolas Aguilar serves as a graduate assistant coach for the University of the Cumberlands wrestling program, bringing experience as both an accomplished competitor and an emerging coach at the collegiate level.
Aguilar joined the coaching ranks after competing across multiple collegiate levels, including NCAA Division I, NJCAA, and NAIA wrestling. Most recently, he served as the co-head wrestling coach at Menlo College, where he ran weekly practices focused on technique, strategy, and conditioning while mentoring student-athletes in academics, athletics, and personal development. During his tenure, Aguilar helped guide Menlo to its first three NCWA National All-Americans, marking a significant milestone in the program’s history.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Aguilar has spent over a decade providing private wrestling instruction to athletes ranging from youth to the collegiate level. His individualized coaching approach has helped develop multiple All-Americans and elevate a high school wrestler to a top-five national ranking and a Division I commitment. His background in video analysis, mental preparation, and technical development has allowed him to work effectively with athletes of varying styles and experience levels.
As a competitor, Aguilar compiled an impressive résumé. He was an NCAA Division I National Qualifier at Rutgers University, earning NWCA All-American honors and the Werblin Award. He also captured NJCAA All-American honors as part of a national championship team at Clackamas Community College and later finished as an NAIA National Runner-Up while competing for Menlo College.
Aguilar earned his bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management from Menlo College and holds an associate degree in General Studies from Clackamas Community College. His academic background, combined with his leadership experience, supports his role in mentoring student-athletes and contributing to the overall development of the Cumberlands wrestling program.
