Brandon Hensley is entering his sixteenth year as the Director of Athletic Video Operations at the University of the Cumberlands after being promoted to the role in 2010. Hensley began his career with the Patriots in 2008 as a student assistant in the Sports Information Department before transitioning into broadcasting and athletic highlights following graduation. Since taking over the video department, Hensley has been instrumental in establishing and growing Cumberlands' broadcasting presence into one of the most comprehensive in the NAIA.
In his current role, Hensley oversees all aspects of the university’s video streaming and broadcasting. Under his leadership, UC now provides live streams of all home events for sports including baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, cheer & dance, football, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, swimming & diving, men’s and women’s track & field, volleyball, and men’s and women’s wrestling. He also leads the production of video content across UC’s athletic website and social media platforms. Since his hire, the department has implemented consistent video streaming and highlight production for the first time in school history.
Hensley's work has been widely recognized by his peers and professional organizations. He has won over 25 publication and broadcasting awards from CoSIDA/College Sports Communicators. In 2012, he received the University of the Cumberlands Young Alumnus Award, and his other accolades include the CSC Achievement Award and the NAIA Ball "Cody Butler Award."
Professionally, Hensley has served for several years on the NAIA Branding Committee, where he played a key role in launching the weekly “NAIA Top Plays” video series, which has since become a staple across NAIA social platforms.
Before joining Cumberlands full-time, Hensley worked in broadcasting and sports media throughout Kentucky. He was a Sports Director, Anchor, and Reporter at WYMT-TV in Hazard, KY (2005–2008), and previously served as a radio personality for WTUK 105.1 FM in Harlan, KY (2001–2005). In addition, he provided play-by-play commentary for high school sports on multiple radio stations across the state, including WSGS 101.1 FM, WANV 96.7 FM, WWEL 103.9 FM, WEZJ 104.3 FM, and WEKX 102.7 FM. From 2000–2003, he was also an assistant baseball coach at James A. Cawood High School.
A 2010 graduate of the University of the Cumberlands, Hensley earned his Bachelor of Science in Communication Arts.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Hensley treasures his time with family. He and his wife Kacey have two sons, Grayson and Tucker, and Brandon considers watching his boys play sports and sharing in their accomplishments one of life’s greatest gifts.
