Volleyball Defeated by #24 Campbellsville 3-1

Box Score Campbellsville, KY – UC volleyball started strong in the MSC match against the 24th-ranked Tigers of Campbellsville University, however Campbellsville gained momentum to steal the match 3-1 (15-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-11). After the win, the Tigers improve to 19-3 overall and 8-2 in conference while the Patriots fall to 11-15 on the year and 4-7 in the MSC.

The first set was a steady exchange for the lead, but five straight points gave UC the 10-6 lead. Campbellsville gathered a few points then the Patriots took six in a row to move up 19-9. The Tigers managed to shorten the lead to 19-12, however Cumberlands held onto the lead to win the first set 25-15.

In the second set, the Patriots took a demanding 6-2 lead until the Tigers put up three to shorten the deficit to 6-5. UC was able to hold the lead until 9-6 when Campbellsville scored five straight for an 11-9 lead. From there, the Tigers pushed their lead further while scoring 11 of 12 points for the 23-12 lead. This would prove to be too much and Campbellsville went on to win the second set 25-14.

Momentum carried into the third set for the Tigers as they opened up the set 8-3. UC shortened the lead to 9-6 but three straight put Campbellsville ahead 12-6. The Tigers pushed their lead to 17-10 and even further to 23-12. The Patriots would be unable to come back and Campbellsville won the set 25-15.

The fourth set had the Patriots with the lead 4-1 lead which held until Campbellsville rallied for six points to steal the lead at 11-8. UC kept the score close at 13-10, however the Tigers unleashed with seven points straight to go up 20-10. After the Patriots broke the rally, Campbellsville took the final five points to win the match and set 25-11.

Abbie Genders tallied six kills while Jessica Severs and Megan Willoughby each recorded five in the match. Severs also had 15 digs, Tara Routliffe contributed 12 of her own. Lynsey Short notched 20 assists and two aces. Genders also tallied three assisted blocks.

The Patriots will return to the court on Tuesday, October 24, in Williamsburg, KY, to take on Kentucky State University for senior night. This match will also be UC volleyball's third annual Rally 4 SPED night. First serve is set for 7 PM.
