Williamsburg, KY – All 11 UC Men's Basketball players scored at least two points as the Patriots defeated Carver 92-65 Tuesday night at the O. Wayne Rollins Center. With the win UC improves to 4-0 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 0-4.
Cumberlands was in control of the game right from the start beginning the game on a 7-0 run as
Bernard Samuel tallied a bucket and two assists. Carver cut the lead to 9-5, before a
Chance Morton three-pointer put the Patriots ahead by seven five minutes into the first half. UC used a 10-2 run, including four points from
Malik Colvin-Seldon, to push the lead to 22-7. Carver added a field goal before the Patriots netted 15 straight points to extend their lead to 37-9 with 8:15 remaining. The Cougars cut the lead to 23 points, but
Anthony Eaves drained a bucket to push it back to 25 points with five minutes left in the first half. UC outscored Carver 9-7 in the final minutes to take a 50-23 lead into halftime.
The two teams traded baskets to begin the second half before Colvin-Seldon's field goal gave the Patriots a 58-27 lead three minutes in. A few minutes later,
Taylor Gover and
Eric Duncan both hit from behind the arc to extend the lead to 66-31 with 13:58 remaining. Cumberlands went on a 12-7 run over a five minute span to give the Patriots their largest lead of the game at 78-39. Carver responded with a 13-0 run to cut the lead to 78-52 with 6:14 remaining. Duncan converted a pair of free throws and
Kaashif English hit a jumper to push the lead back to 30 points. Two minutes later, Duncan missed a three-pointer but
Jeremy Steadman was there for the put back slam to give UC an 86-56 lead with 3:24 left. Steadman would add another offensive rebound and dunk later the half to help the Patriots hold on for the 92-65 win.
Leading the way for the Patriots was Duncan, who recorded a game-high 16 points, while Morton added 13 points. Samuel dished out five assists for the fourth straight game as
LaRoyce Eason recorded eight points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Will Gary and Colvin-Seldon each finished with double-figures scoring 11 and ten points, respectfully.
The Patriots will return to the court Saturday, November 11, when they travel to Belleville, IL to take on Lindenwood-Belleville in their first road game of the season. The game is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
