Williamsburg, KY – The UC men's basketball team had seven players in double-figures to led the Patriots to a 126-54 win over Toccoa Falls Sunday at the O. Wayne Rollins Center. With the win the Patriots improve to 10-2, while the Screaming Eagles drop to 0-8.
The Screaming Eagles hit the first to field goals of the game to take a 5-0 lead.
Bernard Samuel hit a pair of three-pointers to give the Patriots an 8-5 lead three minutes in. Toccoa Falls went ahead 9-8, before UC used a 10-0 run, which included four points from Travon Lebranche, to take control of the game with 14:40 remaining.
Malik Colvin-Seldon and
Eric Duncan combined for 16 points as part of a 22-6 run, over the course of seven minutes to give UC a 40-14 lead. After the Screaming Eagles hit back-to-back three pointers
Anthony Eaves scored seven of the Patriots next nine points to extend their lead to 52-22 with 5:03 remaining. Toccoa Falls outscored Cumberlands 10-9 over the final five minutes to cut the lead to 61-32 at the break.
The Patriots hot shooting continued in the second half as Cumberlands hit 65% from the field and 65% from long range over the final 20 minutes. Toccoa Falls netted four of the first seven points of the half, before a Samuel's field goal sparked a 15-0 run, which included a pair of long balls from
Will Gary, to extend UC's lead to 79-36 with 15:05 remaining. After an Eagles bucket, Gary,
Taylor Gover, and Samuel (twice) hit from long range to give the Patriots a 91-40 advantage seven minutes into the second half. Seth Stanley made a pair of shots to cut the lead to 93-46. Cumberlands responded by scoring 23 unanswered points that including a three-point play by Gover to push the Patriots over the century mark for the second time this season. UC outscored Toccoa Falls 14-8 over the last five minutes for the 126-54 final.
The Patriots set season-highs in points (126), field goals (49), field goal percentage (62%), three pointers (19), assists (33), and steals (18). The 33 assists is also a new program record, while the 19 made three pointers tied the school record.
Leading the way for the Patriots was Samuel, who tallied a career-high 31 points on 11-13 shooting including going 7-8 from behind the arc. Gary recorded his first career double-double after tallying a career-high 10 assists to go along with 17 points, six rebounds, and six steals. Colvin-Seldon finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Eaves chipped in 18 points, six steals, and five assists. Duncan tied his career-high with five assists, while
Kaashif English set a career-high with five assists.
The Patriots will return to the court Friday, December 29, when they host Kentucky Christian in the Cumberlands Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. Live video is available
