Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Bo Kidd

Patriot Ladies Pound Georgetown in 63-47 Victory

Georgetown, KY – After an even keel first quarter, the UC Women's Basketball team would kick their game into another gear as they would double-up the Tigers of Georgetown College in the next two quarters, jumping out to a large lead that would end with a 63-47 victory for the Patriots. The win pushes the Patriots' overall record to 13-3 and 2-1 in Mid-South Conference play.

The first quarter saw the lead jump back-and-forth as the largest lead for either team was just four. After ten minutes of play though, the teams were even at 16-16. The second quarter was a tough one for both teams as well, but UC would capitalize on six Tiger turnovers while Georgetown would only shoot 2-13 from the floor in the period. UC would have 11 turnovers themselves in the quarter, but would shoot 5-11 from the field as they would jump out to a nine-point lead with just a minute and a half until halftime. Ashley Jackson was a major part of that push, sinking threes on three straight possessions for the Patriots late in the quarter as UC would hold a 32-24 lead at the break.

The second half started out much like the first half ended. UC doubled up the Tigers in the previous period 16-8 and would do the same in the third, outscoring Georgetown 18-9 in the quarter. The Patriots began the third on a 12-2 run including two from deep by Jackson, two baskets by Cheyenne Madden, and two freebies by Kayla Bruner to take a 44-26 lead. Scoring was near even the rest of the quarter as the Patriots held a 50-33 lead entering the fourth. UC would see its largest lead midway through the quarter at 56-37 before marching on to the 16-point win in enemy territory.

Jackson would add one free throw to her scoring as she led all scorers with 16 points and five rebounds while going 5-6 from three-point territory. Madden tallied her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Shayla Simpson has one of her most productive games of the year, chipping in 12 points, four rebounds, four assists, four blocks, and four steals.

UC shot 41.2% from the field in the contest while going 10-19 (52.6%) from deep. The Patriots held Georgetown to just 27.4% from the floor as well as just 15.4% (4-26) from beyond the arc.

The Patriots now turn their attention to Thursday, January 18th as they will travel to Lebanon, Tennessee as they take on Cumberland University in another Mid-South Conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 7 pm eastern standard time.
