Williamsburg, KY – Back on their home court on Saturday, the Patriot ladies looked to get back in the win column in Mid-South Conference play, though the task would not be easy as they hosted NAIA eighth-ranked Lindsey Wilson College. After jumping out ahead early in the first, the Blue Raiders would come alive and take the lead later in the quarter and never relinquish it, defeating UC 57-47. The loss moves the Patriots to 13-5 on the year and 2-3 in MSC action.
UC would jump out to an early 5-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game, but Lindsey Wilson would get their offense clicking, going on a 10-4 to close out the quarter on top 12-9. The Patriots would close the lead to one early in the second on a basket by
Kayla Bruner, but it would be the closest they could get as LWC inched themselves away to a 27-20 lead at the halftime break.
In the third, the trio of Bruner,
Cheyenne Madden, and
Shayla Simpson would keep the Patriots within striking distance as they combined for all 10 points in the quarter, but UC would still trail 38-30 heading into the final quarter of play. Again here, that same trio began the quarter scoring UC's first 10 points in the frame, getting the lead down to six, but it was the closest they would get as the Blue Raiders would finally pull away for the 10 point win over Cumberlands.
Madden would tally her eighth double-double of the season, second most in the MSC, with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Simpson added 12 points, six rebounds, four steals, and two assists for UC. Bruner pitched in 11 points off the bench as well for the Patriots. Cumberlands would shoot 36.5% from the field, but would go just 2-16 from beyond the three point line.
The Patriot ladies return to their home floor on Thursday, January 25
th as they will host the University of Pikeville for another Mid-South Conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 6 pm.
