Williamsburg, KYLynsey Short tallied 34 assists, while Ashley Sobocinski recorded 14 digs to lead the UC volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-23) win over Life in Mid-South Conference action Friday night at the UC Volleyball Gym. With the win the Patriots improve to 16-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play, while the Running Eagles fall to 9-17 overall and 3-5 against the MSC.

Cumberlands got back-to-back kills from Lily Chapman and Sobocinski to jump out to a 2-0 lead.  Life tied the score before UC rattled off five straight points, including a pair of service aces from Tara Routliffe to give the Patriots a 7-2 advantage.  After the teams traded points to make it 12-9 in favor of the Patriots, UC went on a 5-1 run capped off by a Megan Jackson kill to extend the lead to 17-10.  Life scored eight of the next ten points to cut the lead to 19-18, however that was the closest they got as Cumberlands took six of the next seven points to take the set 25-19.

The Running Eagles took a 5-2 lead to start the second set, but UC responded with a pair of kills from Sobocinski coupled with a Mackenzie Koch kill to even the score at 5-5.  The match was tied five times, before a Jackson kill sparked a 6-2 run for the Patriots to give UC an 18-14 advantage.  Cumberlands got a pair of kills from Jackson and Koch along with a kill from Chapman to cap off the set 25-19 and give the Patriots the 2-0 lead.

It was a back-and-forth right from the start as Life took an early 8-5 lead.  The Running Eagles extended their lead to 10-6 before Cumberlands battled back as a Short connected with Sobocinski for a kill which sparked a 6-0 run. That run also included a block from Chapman and Koch as well as a kill from Abbie Genders to give UC a 12-10 advantage.  The Patriots took advantage of Life's miscues to extend their lead to 16-12, but the Running Eagles fought back and eventually tied the score at 18-18.  UC got kills from Jackson and Leah Crist as part of four unanswered points to take a 22-18 edge.  Life cut the score to 24-23 however Short found Genders for the kill to clinch the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.

Sobocinski finished with a career-high 14 digs to go along with seven kills, while Short dished out a three-set season high 34 assists as well as eight digs and two kills.  Jackson notched a team-high 11 kills, while Chapman and Koch finished with nine apiece. Tara Routliffe finished with 14 digs and three service aces in the win.
