Box Score Campbellsville, KY – The 18
th-ranked University of the Cumberlands Patriots (15-2-2, MSC 5-0-2) fell to the seventh-seed Georgetown College Tigers (6-10-1, MSC 2-5-0) 3-2 in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament.
Cumberlands looked to get on the board early with a shot from
Alanna Skinner, which deflected off the crossbar to keep the game scorless. Shortly after
Sara Randez fired a shot that was saved by the Georgetown goalkeeper. In the 9' minute the Tigers Skye Zimmer passed the ball to Bethany Massey who put a shot into the lower right corner of the net for the 1-0 led. Five minutes later, Georgetown scored again as Josey Sobolewski drilled the rebound shot into the back of the net to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage. UC and Georgetown traded possession the majority of the first half, until the 42 seconds mark when
Laura Navajas connected with
Selena Barnett, who placed a shot in the lower right corner of the net to cut the led to 2-1.
UC started the second half strong recording two shots in the first six minutes. UC and the Tigers traded time of possession until the 69' minute when Georgetown scored their third goal of the match from Sobolewski with the assist to Zimmer, pushing their lead to 3-1. Six minutes later, the Patriots to advantage of a Georgetown handball as Randez converted a free kick from just outside the box to cut the lead to 3-2. UC looked to score the equalizer in the final six minutes firing three shots, but were unable to convert for the 3-2 final.
In the contest UC outshot the Tigers 26-9.
Cumberlands now awaits to see if they will be an at large bid for the national tournament. The selection will be announced on Monday, November 12.
