UC Men’s Soccer Season End in Overtime Loss

Campbellsville, KY – Thierry Jules netted the golden goal in the 101' minute to give the fifth-seed Life a 2-1 win over the fourth-seed UC men's soccer team in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference tournament Friday night.  With the win Life advance to next week's semifinals, while the Patriots end their season with a 7-5-3 record.

Both teams looked to get out to a fast start firing off shots, however neither team was able to put in on frame.  UC looked to take an early lead in the 14' minute, but an offside call on Marvin van der Made negated the goal keeping the game scoreless.  From that point Life controlled possession tallying four shots and two corner kicks over the next 15 minutes.  The game remained scoreless until the 31' minute as Jacob Bivens found Jules, who put a shot just inside the far post to give the Running Eagles a 1-0 lead.  UC looked for the equalizer as Joel Drewery put a shot on frame, but couldn't convert keep the score 1-0 at the break.

Cumberlands picked up the intensity in the second half take two of the first three shots of the period.  Then, van der Made got the ball, after it deflect off a Life player, and fired the goal from 20 yards out to even the score 1-1.  Just over a minute later, van der Made had another opportunity but Luka Zakarija was there for the save.  The game continued to be back-and-forth over the next 30 minutes. Just under ten minutes remaining in the second half the Patriots were called for two fouls in the box, setting up a pair of penalty kicks for Life.  The Running Eagles missed both of those opportunities high keep the game tied 1-1.  UC had an opportunity in the final minute of regulation but Nicklas Nancke shot sailed high forcing overtime.

In the first overtime, Joel Caldwell recorded the lone shot on goal by either team, which was saved forcing a second overtime.  Just under a minute into the second overtime Shingirai Chabika sent a ball forward to Jules, who headed it in to give Life the 2-1 win.
