Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Patriots Fall to Faulkner 71-63

Dalton, GA – The 16th-ranked UC Men's Basketball couldn't overcome a late 8-0 run as they fell to (RV) Faulkner 71-63 in the MSC/SSAC Crossover Friday night. With the win the Eagles improve to 3-0, while the Patriots drop to 4-1.

Malik Colvin-Seldon got the scoring started for the Patriots with back-to-back buckets in the paint to give UC a 4-2 lead.  The game was tied twice before a Jordan Griggs and Anthony Eaves hit back-to-back three pointers to give UC a 14-10 advantage with 13:29 remaining.  Minutes later Eaves drained another shot from behind the arc to extend the lead to 19-13 midway through the first half.  Faulkner went on a 13-6 run to take a 26-25 lead, however Griggs converted a layup coupled with a pair of threes from Austin Hall to put Cumberlands back in front 33-26 with 4:54 remaining.  The teams traded baskets as Hall hit another bucket to give UC a 39-32 lead at the break.

Both teams started the second half trading baskets until Nnamdi Van Dulm and Colvin-Seldon notched back-to-back field goals to extend the Patriots lead to 51-45 with 11:19 remaining.  Faulkner cut the lead to 53-51 before Colvin-Seldon and Brown each netted a bucket to push UC's lead back to six. After the teams traded buckets Faulkner went on an 8-2 run to take a 63-61 lead with 2:07 remaining.  Cumberlands responded 20 seconds later as Eaves sank a bucket in the paint to even the score.  The Eagles scored the final eight points of the game for the 71-63 final.

Faulkner went 21-27 from the charity stripe in the contest, while UC converted 2-6.  Cumberlands shot 44.1% from the field, including going 7-11 from beyond-the-arc.
Leading the way for the Patriots was Eaves, who tallied a season-high 22 points and seven rebounds, while Colvin-Seldon chipped in 12 points and four rebounds.  Bri'an Brown was a point away from his second double-double on the season as he finished with 11 rebounds and nine points.

UC returns to action on Saturday, November 10, as they face Dalton State at 4 p.m. on the second day of the MSC/SSAC Classic.  This will be a rematch of last year's NAIA Tournament opening round in which the Roadrunners won 62-60.
