Fifth-Ranked Men’s Wrestling Goes 2-1 at Warrior Duals

Fort Wayne, IN – The fifth-ranked UC men's wrestling team finished 2-1 at the Warriors Duals defeated (RV) Lourdes 28-15 and 18th-ranked Marian 34-9, before falling to second-ranked Indiana Tech 27-10 Saturday.  The Patriots improve to 3-1 in dual meets on the season.

The Patriots started the day with a 28-15 win over Lourdes.  UC started the match up 6-0 after a forfeit at 125 lbs. Lourdes notched back-to-back decisions to even the match, before Cody Huston posted a 4-3 win at 149 lbs. to put UC back in front.  Eighth-ranked Bobby Ehaman tallied a major decision followed by Brady Emerson recording a 6-5 decision to extend UC's lead to 16-6.  Jarod Swank and fourth-ranked Eric Deluse each tallied a fall in their respective matches for UC's final two wins of the match and the 28-15 final.

Cumberlands followed that up with a 34-9 win over the 18th-ranked Knights.  Hayden Lee improved to 2-0 on the day after a 13-2 major decision over Christopher Sharp at 125 lbs.  Marian recorded back-to-back wins at 133 lbs. and 141 lbs. to take a 9-4 edge, however UC stormed back winning the final seven matches of the dual.  Top-ranked Tres Leon earned an 18-0 tech fall over Noah Warren to tie the score at 9-9. Ehamn, eighth-ranked Tristan Macri, and Swank each posted decision against a ranked opponent to extend the lead to 18-9.  11th-ranked Max Emerson pinned 18th-ranked Alston Bane at 184 lbs., before Deluse tallied his fourth fall of the season.  At 285 lbs., Aaron Johnson knocked off eighth-ranked Ethan Bunce with a 15-7 major decision for the 34-9 final.

UC closed out the Warrior Duals by falling to second ranked Indiana Tech in a dual that featured five matches of ranked opponents.  UC fell behind early as the Warriors won the first three contest to take a 13-0 lead.  At 149 lbs., Leon defeated fourth-ranked Justin Atkinson in a 17-3 major decision to cut the deficit to 13-4.  Ehman followed an 11-8 decision over tenth-ranked Robert Humphrey to make it 13-7.  Indiana Tech won the next four matches, before Johnson posted a 10-2 major decision over Joseph Chacon at 285 lbs. for the 27-10 final.

Ehman improves to 9-0 on the season, while Johnson moves to 12-1 overall.  

The Patriots will return to the mat Friday, January 4, as they travel to Louisville, KY to take part in the NWCA National Duals tournament.
