Williamsburg, KY – UC Women's Basketball would battle until the final seconds of the contest on Thursday night as they hosted NAIA #1 ranked Shawnee State University, but the Bears would have a bit too much fire power as they would defeat the Patriots by a final score of 62-49 on Senior Night. The loss pushes the Patriots' record to 15-12 on the year and 3-10 in Mid-South Conference play.
 
UC honored their two seniors before the contest as Cheyenne Madden and Brandi Williams would take to the floor in the O. Wayne Rollins Center for the final time in their careers. The Patriots and Bears would trade baskets for a majority of the opening quarter. Shawnee State would jump out front 13-9, but UC would battle back to get it within one at 16-15. A late basket would bump the lead back to three at 18-15 at the end of the first. SSU would begin to try and pull away from the Patriots in the second, but Cumberlands would continue to try and battle back. As Shawnee would grab their first double-digit lead of the game with under a minute to play, UC would find a three from Kayla Bruner to cut it down to a 33-26 deficit at the half.
 
In the third, SSU would pull away again, but UC would not go down without a fight with Callia Cropp, Ashley Jackson, Cheyenne Madden, and Bruner would all find the scoring column. The Bears would close the quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 51-37 lead entering the final 10 minutes of play. The Patriots would cut the lead down to eight in the fourth, but that was as close as they could get as SSU would finish off the contest with a 13 point win over the Patriots.
 
Kayla Bruner would lead all Patriot scorers with 14 points to go with seven rebounds, three steals, two assists, and a block. Jasmine Rhodes would ship in nine points with eight rebounds while Cropp added eight points and four rebounds. The Patriots would finish the game shooting 38% from the field and nearly 43% from three point range while outrebounding the Bears 33-24.
 
Cumberlands now turns their attention to the regular season finale on Saturday, February 24^th as they travel northeast to take on the Bears of the University of Pikeville at the East Kentucky Expo Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm.
