Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Patriots use Strong Second Half to Win Battle of Top Five Teams

West Palm Beach, FL – The second-ranked University of the Cumberlands women's lacrosse team netted 11 second half goals, including eight from Samantha Tullar, to knock off fifth-ranked Keiser Wednesday at Arrigo Vecellio  Stadium.  With the win the Patriots notch their second win over a top-five opponent this season and improve to 7-0 overall, while the Seahawks move to 7-1.

Keiser struck first jumping out to a 2-0 lead five minutes into the first half. Just over a minute later Emily Heim found Jaclyn Berry cutting towards the cage for a goal.  Tullar won the ensuing draw control and connected with Shea West for the equalizer 17 second later.  Berry netted her second goal, before finding Tristyn Hudson, who put a well-placed shot into the cage to give UC a 4-2 lead with 18:25 remaining.  The Seahawks scored three unanswered goals, over the course of seven minutes, to retake the lead a 5-4.  After the two teams traded goals Berry found Katherine Brewer in front of the crease for a goal to even the score at 6-6 with 3:30 remaining.  Cumberlands retook the lead at the 2:14 mark as Berry converted a free position goal giving the Patriots a 7-6 advantage at the break.

Tullar and Heim scored back-to-back goals to start the second half and extend UC's lead to 9-6 three minutes in.  Keiser cut the lead to 9-8, before Tullar recorded six of the next seven goals to give Cumberlands a 15-9 advantage with 10:11 remaining. The Seahawks responded scoring three of the next four goals to cut the lead to 16-12 with 5:55 left.  Two minutes later, Tullar scooped a ground ball and found Hudson for a goal.  Cumberlands won the ensuing draw and on the Patriots possession Hudson found Angelica Makowski for her first goal of the contest.  Keiser added a goal late for the 18-final.

Leading the way for the Patriots was Tullar who tallied eight goals, three assists, nine draw controls, and five ground balls. Berry netted three goals and dished out three assists, while Hudson chipped in a career-high four points.

Defensively, Emily Crump made 11 saves and scooped five ground balls in the cage.  Jessica Truelove and Elizabeth Fladung each finished with four ground balls apiece.

The Patriots will return to the field Friday, March 16, when they travel to Naples, FL to take on (RV) Ave Maria. The game is slated for 4 p.m.
