Williamsburg, KY – UC men's tennis team won four of the six singles matches to defeat Lewis-Clark State 6-3 Monday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex. With the win the Patriots extend their win streak to three straight matches and improve to 4-7 overall, while the Warriors move to 2-8.
Cumberlands jumped out to a quick lead as
Eric Banoub and
Rodrigo Ratte posted an 8-4 win at #3 doubles. Aatu Mereheimo and Luis Montoll defeated Ignacio Salom and William Bruchard 8-6 to extend UC's lead to 2-0. Lewis-Clark State earned a win at #2 doubles to cut the lead to 2-1 heading into singles play.
The Patriots extended their lead to 4-1 with wins at #1 and #2 singles.
Martin Barbier notched a 6-1, 6-4 win at #1 singles, while Merenheimo defeated Luca Menzes in straight sets at #2 singles.
Luis Montull followed with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Tony Chin at #4 singles to clinch he match for UC and give them a 5-1 advantage. The Warriors earned wins at #3 and #5 singles to make it 5-3. At #6 singles, Banoub won the first set 6-3, before dropping the second set 5-7. He rallied to win the third set 10-7 to give Cumberlands a 6-3 win.
The Patriots will return to the court Saturday, March 31, when they travel to Columbia, KY to take on Lindsey Wilson in a nonconference match. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the UC Tennis Complex.
