Columbia, KY – UC men's tennis team continued their break from conference play as they faced fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson. The Patriots couldn't overcome an early deficit as they fell to the Blue Raiders 6-3 at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex. With the win the Blue Raiders improve to 5-0, while the Patriots move to 4-8.
Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a quick 2-0 with wins at #1 and #2 doubles. At #3 doubles,
Rodrigo Ratte and
Eric Banoub faced Edberg Espinoza and Steven Espinoza. The duals traded points and Ratte and Banoub rallied to force a tiebreaker, however the Blue Raiders won the tiebreaker 7-5 to extend their lead to 3-0.
The Blue Raiders took a straight set win at #1 singles to extend their lead to 4-0. At #2 singles,
Martin Barbier dropped the first set to Camilo Erazo but rallied to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-4 to cut the deficit to 4-1. Lindsey Wilson took #3 and #4 singles to clinch the match and take a 6-1 lead. Ratte added a win at #5 singles, while
Eric Banoub defeated Steven Espinoza in three sets at #6 singles for the 6-3 final.
Barbier improves to 8-3 in singles play this season, while Banoub is 5-0 at the #6 singles. Both players have won their last four matches.
The Patriots will return to the court Monday, April 2, when they travel to Midway, KY to take on the Midway Eagles. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
