Patriots Upended Lewis-Clark State 5-4

Williamsburg, KY – The UC women's tennis team rallied in single play to defeat Lewis-Clark State 5-4 Monday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex. With the win the Patriots improve to 5-6 and winners of three straight matches, while the Warriors move to 3-10.

Tomomi Nagao and Jaclyn Jewell began the match with an 8-1 win at #1 doubles to give UC a 1-0 lead.  The duo improves to 5-6 on the season in that position.  Lewis-Clark State won 8-2 at #3 doubles to even the match at 1-1.  At #2 doubles, Luka Lyttle and Denee Lyttle battled Hanah Uhlenkott and Jen Roux and forced a tie-breaker however the Warriors won the tie-breaker 7-4 to take a 2-1 advantage into singles play.

Nagao and Jewell's strong play carried over into their singles competitions as they won at the #1 and #2 positions, respectfully.  Nagao posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Uhlenkott, while Jewell won 6-3, 6-0, giving the Patriots a 3-2 lead.  Luka Lyttle followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win at #3 singles to extend UC's lead to 4-2.  Lewis-Clark State notched wins at #4 and #5 singles, before Hannah Wampler defeated Sophie Uhlenkott in a three-set match 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 to clinch the match for Cumberlands.

The Patriots will return to the court Saturday, March 31, when they travel to Columbia, KY to take on Lindsey Wilson in a nonconference match. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the UC Tennis Complex.
