Columbia, KY – Facing third-ranked Lindsey Wilson, the UC women's tennis team but up a valiant effort but it wasn't enough as they fell 9-0 at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex. With the win the Blue Raiders improve to 3-2, while the Patriots move to 5-7.
Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a quick 2-0 with wins at #2 and #3 doubles. At #1 doubles,
Tomomi Nagao and
Jaclyn Jewell faced Minja Gligic and Jovana Peric. The doubles traded points, before the Blue Raiders pulled away for the 8-5 win to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
The Blue Raiders took a straight set win at #5 singles to extend their lead to 4-0. At #1 singles, Nagao dropped the first set Gligic 6-1. Nagao rallied to win the second set 6-2 to force a third set. In the third set the two players traded points with the match tied a 6-6 Gligic won the tiebreaker 7-3 to take the point and clinch the match for Lindsey Wilson. The Blue Raiders won the final four singles in straight sets for the 9-0 final.
The Patriots will return to the court Monday, April 2, when they travel to Midway, KY to take on the Midway Eagles. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
